With nearly 90% of population having high immunity , Kerala is considered always as a low endemic state, in case of Leprosy.

But a recent survey in children had shown that is an increase of 44 new cases.

Children have low immunity than adult in case of leprosy and most of the cases reported are a symptomatic and paucibacillary ( very few bacteria). Still the rise in new cases is alarming.

Public health dept must take this matter with high priority and do a root cause analysis and come forward with corrective suggestions at the earliest.

So when ever you notice some hypo pigmented patches, or loss of sensation of limbs or any other sites of the body, it is advisable to have a consultation, with a competent skin specialist.
