Biologics are protein based drugs derived from living cells cultured in the laboratory. Biologics are different from traditional systemic drug that impact the entire immune system. Biologics instead, target specific part of the immune system like T cells or block protein in the immune system such as TNF – alpha, interleukin 17-A, or interleukins 12 and 23. They are given as IV infusions or intradermal injections with varying frequencies of weeks to months according to the molecules used. 

 

Biologics drugs are usually prescribed by doctors with special training and experience with these kind of medications. 

If administered after proper investigation and patient selection, will give better result with longer remission or cure with minimal side effect than the previous conventional treatment.
